Port Blair, Sep 24: Today on 23/09/2023, Swaraj Dweep Police launched the initiative Drug Free Tourism, at a ceremony held in P.S. Swaraj Dweep followed by an awareness rally and an essay competition for School students of GSSS Swaraj Dweep.
The Ceremony was attended by Zilla Parisad Member, Pradhans of Shyam Nagar and Radha Nagar, all head of offices present in Swaraj Dweep, managers and owners of Hotels and Resorts with representatives from Diving Community, tour operators, taxi drivers and auto drivers.
During the ceremony SDPO Swaraj Dweep Mr. Manasvi Vashistha, DANIPS along with I/C PS Swaraj Dweep, SI Nixon Isaac and SI Sumit Singh elaborated on the initiative and on the proposed action plan.
Drugs, he explained, is a problem for every member of the society and once they creep into the society, the social fabric disintegrates.
Therefore as part of this initiative Swaraj Dweep police will execute a direct crackdown on drug dealers including small time peddlers. Further the initiative will include creating awareness by means of banners all across the island to highlight the ills of drug abuse to locals and tourists, alike.
SDPO Manasvi Vashistha further directed all Hotel/Resort representatives to display a message in their premises that shall read as “Consumption and possession of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances is prohibited. Violators shall be prosecuted as per law”.
In addition to this the initiative shall also include awareness programs about drugs. The awareness program will target various sections of society and will include a social media campaign with #DRUGFREETOURISM
In the end he exhorted all the eminent people of Swaraj Dweep to join hands with the Police in this initiative and make “Swaraj Dweep” a drug-free paradise.
The General public is hereby implored to help this cause of South Andaman Police and share any information regarding drugs or crimes related to drugs. They will be suitably rewarded without disclosing identity.
