Port Blair, Sep 05: Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member, BJP & Former State President BJP, A&N islands demanded the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to declare 08th September 2022 as a Public Holiday on account of Onam Festival.
In his letter, he mentioned that as the Onam festival will be celebrated on 08th September 2022 in A&N Islands by the members of Malayalee Communities, the AA&N Administration has considered the aforesaid date as Restricted Holiday vide notification dated 24th August 2021.
Further Mr. Jolly wrote that the Onam festival is one of the most important festivals of the Malayalee Community. This is the lone festival, celebrated by all the Malayalee Communities irrespective of caste and religion with great enthusiasm in these islands.
Accordingly, he requested that the mentioned date of festival/occasion be considered and declared a Public Holiday in lieu of a Restricted Holiday.
