ANPCC organizes sensitization programme to create awareness about harmful effect of Single Use Plastic

Port Blair, Sep 04: Andaman and Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC), Department of Science and Technology (DST) organized a sensitization programme to create awareness and to inculcate the school children about the harmful effect of Single Use Plastic (SUP) on human beings and the environment including flora, fauna and Marine environment on 29th August 2022 in GSSS Model Goal Tekri, Kamorta Island and GSSS Champin, Nancowrie Island on 30th August 2022.

            The environmental movies related to the harmful effect of plastic were screened in both schools. The Member Secretary, ANPCC-cum-Director, Science & Technology interacted with the students of both the schools and explained concisely about the banned SUP items and the harmful effect on the environment and human beings.

         He further elaborately illustrated the green materials available in the market as an alternative to SUPs in order to reduce plastic waste generation and encouraged the school children to use biodegradable material in place of SUP. Cloth bags and posters on alternatives to SUP were distributed among the school children and teachers of both schools.
