Online Session on Women Economic Opportunities & Social Empowerment and Objectives of One Stop Centre Scheme Organizes by One Stop Centre, Directorate of Social Welfare via Zoom

Port Blair, Apr 16: One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an online awareness session for the benefits of the women to address various women specific legislations, safety and security.

Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (SW), in the keynote address spoke about the importance of raising awareness on transforming economic opportunities for women through trade, policies, and practices that are gender inclusive for women. Further highlighted the trade can improve economic outcomes for women, increasing employment and wages lead to better jobs, and lowering castes for women. It can help gender equality broader.

The resource person Mr. Anish Badaik, Para Legal Personnel/Lawyer, One Stop Centre briefed on Women’s economic empowerment, its opportunities, steps to improve economic empowerment, schemes and programs for women and financial independence has been highlighted. Followed by a session briefed on the objective of One Stop Centre scheme, which provides integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence during distress both in private and public spaces. The One Stop Centers facilitate immediate, emergency, non-emergency services access to a range of services including Medical, Legal, minimum 5 days temporary shelter, Police assistance, Psychological and Counseling support to fight any forms of violence against women under single roof. The program was attended by the college students and public and NGO representatives.
