Andaman Avians Club Leads Successful Beach Cleanup at Chidiyatapu Sunset Point to Mark the World Earth Day 2024

Port Blair, Feb 22: In order to mark World Earth Day 2024, the Andaman Avians Club spearheaded a highly successful beach cleanup initiative at Chidiyatapu Sunset Point. The event was attended by club members and their families, as well as volunteers from Reef Watch and local communities. During the event the local public and tourists were highlighted about the crucial theme of “Planet vs Plastic.”

The cleanup drive, held on April 21st, 2024, brought together passionate individuals dedicated to environmental conservation. Armed with gloves, bags, and an unwavering commitment to protecting our planet, participants combed the shoreline, collecting plastic waste and other debris that threatened the delicate marine ecosystem.

“The theme for World Earth Day, ‘Planet vs Plastic,’ resonated deeply with our club members and the community at large,” said Mr. D. Kishore Kumar , Secretary Andaman Avians Club. “By organizing events like this, we aim to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and inspire positive action.”

The picturesque Chidiyatapu Sunset Point, known for its stunning vistas and rich biodiversity, served as the perfect backdrop for the cleanup effort. Volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the evening, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management and the need for collective action to address environmental challenges.

Mr. Sangamesh , a member of Reef Watch, expressed his gratitude for the collaborative effort, stating, “Cleanup drives like this one demonstrate the power of community engagement in safeguarding our natural resources. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against plastic pollution.”

The Andaman Avians Club plans to continue organizing similar initiatives in the future, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainability within the community. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on activities, they aim to instill a sense of responsibility for the preservation of our planet’s precious ecosystems. The event was coordinated by Mr. Prasanth Sarathy, member AAC under the leadership of Dr. MG Madanan, (President in Charge, AAC) 

As World Earth Day comes to a closure, the legacy of the beach cleanup at Chidiyatapu Sunset Point lives on as a testament to the collective power of individuals united in their commitment to protecting the environment.
