Port Blair, May 05: As part of ‘Prakriti Shantiniketan-the Nature classroom programme’, the 4th Awareness Camp was organised on April 29, 2024 by the Wildlife Division Port Blair, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. About 30 school students and teachers of GDMS participated in the programme.
The main objective of this camp was to orient students to the unique biological and cultural aspects of Nature Park and Interpretation Centre, Haddo, to expose students to the conservation and sustainability practice of the park and to develop an appreciation of the need for biodiversity conservation. This immersive camp offers participants a unique opportunity to engage in educational workshops and guided nature walks led by experienced staff. The nature awareness camp seeks to educate, inspire and empower the students to foster a sense of community and shared responsibility by means of field visit, classroom session, drawing competition and quiz competition.
The main attraction of the camp was visit to different sections of Nature Park and Interpretation, Haddo to gain insights into the importance of biodiversity, conservation efforts and sustainable living practices.
Drawing and quiz competitions were also organised on the topic of the wildlife ecosystem to ignite participants’ passion for the natural world fostering a deeper appreciation for the environment by equipping individuals with practical knowledge and skills. The camp empowers them to become advocates for environmental conservation within their communities.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions and Certificate of Appreciation was also given to the participants. The winners of the drawing competition were B. Rushkesh Rao, Nia K. Shailu, Arpita Mondal and T. Bharat and for the quiz competition, the winners were Priya Mitra, P. Aditya, A. Shyam Sunder and Anugrahit Tirkey. They stood 1st, 2nd, 3rd along with consolation prizes in the respective competition.
