Port Blair, Jul 26: The residents of Kadamtala, Shantanu and Uttara are prepared to go on a peaceful roadblock protest if their long pending demands are not fulfilled within the end of July.

In a letter addressed to the Assistant Commissioner, Rangat, several villagers of Kadamtala, Shantanu and Uttara have again put forward their demands related to electricity, repair of DG set in PHC Kadamtala, connectivity of regular inter-Island boat services and the issue of backup power facility in the BSNL tower of the area.

The villagers mentioned that ever since the power supply to Kadamtala and Uttara region started from the Rangat Bay Power House power disruptions are regular in the area. They also stated that one of the two DG sets is away for repair for a long time and a single DG set is not enough to sustain the power load of these areas. Further, they mentioned that the DG set of PHC Kadamtala is not functional for a long time which creates a hardship for the patients and medical staff.

The villagers also demanded to resume the inter-island boat services of Long Island via Uttara Jetty (Kadamtala) to Saheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep at least twice a week. Lastly, they mentioned the non-availability of the power backup facility in the BSNL tower which causes mobile signal loss during power cuts.

Therefore, after putting all the demands multiple times the villagers of Kadamtala, Shantanu and Uttara asked the A&N Administration to fulfill these demands till 31st July 2022 on a priority basis or the entire populace of these areas will go on a protest under the banner “Santipurna Road Roko Andolan” on 02nd August 2022 in front of Electricity Office, Kadamtala.
