NISD sponsored two days Capacity Building Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for Anganwadi Workers concludes in JNRM

Port Blair, Feb 17: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organized a Two days Capacity Building  Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for Anganwadi Workers from 16th to 17th  February 2023. The valedictory function for the seminar was held on 17th February 2023 in seminar room, JNRM and Mrs.Pramila Kumari, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman District graced the occasion as Chief Guest.   

Addressing the gathering Mrs.Pramila Kumari, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman congratulated the efforts taken by the faculty members of Home science and said this topic of deliberation is the need of the hour. She has exhorted the Anganwadi workers to create awareness and educate people about the ill-effects of substance dependence on the individual, family, workplace and the society at large and integrate them back into the society. 

Dr. H. K. Sharma, Principal, JNRM informed that substance dependence amongst individuals affecting the family and society at large. To alleviate this evil menace a community based approach is very much required as a prevention mechanism, he added. 

Dr. K. Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of this programme informed that the NISD under NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) laid special emphasis for the participation of stakeholders, women, children, and educational institutions, civil society organizations that are directly or indirectly affected by drug abuse. Earlier Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science welcomed the gathering and Ms.P.Bhuvaneshwari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed vote of thanks. Mrs.Poonam Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the programme.
