Regional Station, ICAR- CIARI, conducts World Environmental Day at Minicoy

Port Blair, June 07: The scientific team of ICAR-CIARI Regional Station, Minicoy along with Department of Environment and Forest, Minicoy organized plantation drive on 05/06/2023 in connection with ‘World Environment Day celebration’ under the campaign slogan “Save the earth, Save our environment” with the focus on “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Chokkalingam, Principal, Govt. Polytechnic College Minicoy as Chief Guest. On the occasion, 50 stem cuttings of annual moringa and 200 saplings of mangrove species (Ceriops tangal, and Bruguiera cylindrical)were planted. Dr. Gladston Y explained about micro and macro plastic affecting the ocean, whereas Dr. Ajina S.M informed about mangrove ecosystem services and its conservation .The program was attended by 15 students and three teachers of Polytechnic College, along with staff of Department of Environment and Forest, Minicoy.
