Port Blair, May 30: The Women Helpline 181 under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized Webinar on “Empowerment of Women through Skilling & Micro-Financing”

This webinar aims to explore the various Schemes run by different departments to support rural SHGs women and unemployed women for their economic growth.” 

Delivering the inaugural address, Women Helpline Administrator, Mrs. Sushma Pandey, briefed about the Women and Child Development 24×7 Control room established at Social Welfare Board, VIP Road, Junglighat.

Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (SW), highlighted various initiatives of the government like Rural department, NABARD, SBI to enhance livelihood opportunities and financial support to SHGs/unemployed women. This will help enable SHGs and Employed women to graduate as entrepreneurs and enhance their incomes to become Lakhpati Didis as envisioned by the Prime Minister.” SHGs play a vital role in giving credit access to the poor and this is extremely crucial in poverty alleviation.

The technical session was addressed by a Call Operator, Mrs. Zeba. Z of WHL, on How to form SHGs and loans provided by NABARD, What is self-help? How do we start? How are groups formed, what type of families do we visit for forming SHGs, how are group meetings organized, how do SHGs take shape, membership leadership, Characteristics were discussed, function of SHGs- saving and thrift, internal lending, discussing problems. How to link SHGs to banks was explained step by step. Conduct of internal lending by the SHGs, Assessment of SHGs, Sanction of credit facility to the SHGs, purpose for which loan is given to SHGs and repayment of loan to bank and interest rate were explained. At last the list of documents required by the bank for loan application was discussed.  

The program was attended by PBMC ward counselor, representative of PRIs, general public, AWWs, ASHA Worker, SHGs and staff of Women Help Line and Child Helpline.
