CPI (M) Conducts Corner meetings at Middle Andaman Villages

Port Blair, Feb 27: As part of the All India Campaign on various issues, CPI (M) Middle Andaman Area Committee has organized corner meetings at various parts of three Gram Panchayats Basanthipur, Harinagar and Swadesh nagar on 25th February, 2023.  

Speaking at these meetings, Mr. Rahul Dev Mridha, CPI (M) State Committee Member criticized the BJP-led central government and its Administration in the islands for the growing unemployment in the islands and said that no steps have been taken by the Modi government during the last 9 years to provide jobs to educated unemployed local youths. He said that internet and mobile connectivity in Middle Andaman is very poor because of which youths particularly the college students and students of senior secondary classes are facing inconvenience and demanded that immediate action may be taken to have proper internet and mobile connectivity in the entire Middle Andaman areas.     Addressing the corner meetings,  Mr. SR Mridha, Secretary, CPI (M) Middle Andaman Area Committee explained the poor condition of ATR/NH4 and  rural roads in Middle Andaman and asked the Administration to allot special funds for repair and renovation of rural roads in the entire Middle Andaman area. He also demanded immediate completion of the NH4/ATR road in the Middle Andaman area. Mr. Prakash Sardar, CPI (M) Middle Andaman Area Committee Member also addressed the meetings. The meetings evoked good response from the villagers of above areas.  
The demands highlighted during the week-long campaign are (i) Hike public investments in job creating infrastructure projects, ii. Restore 5 kg of subsidized food grains along with 5 kg free foodgrains, iii. Vastly increase allocation for MGNREGS with a higher wage, iv. Impose a wealth and inheritance tax, v. Withdraw tax concessions to the rich and impose a tax on the super-rich and vi. Withdraw GST on food and essential commodities including medicines besides various local demands.
