Celebrating World Schizophrenia Day (24th May) 2024: CRC A&N Islands in Collaboration with Madras School of Social Work unite to raise awareness

Port Blair, May 30: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A&N Islands), in partnership with the esteemed Madras School of Social Work conducted An Awareness Programme on Anger Management , Empower the future: Awareness about various disabilities among Youth to observe World Schizophrenia Day on May 27, 2024. This collaboration aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and provide support to individuals and families affected by schizophrenia.

Mr.Sakthivel, Guest Lecturer, Department of Psychology, ANCOL was the Special guest cum resource person for the programme. Mrs. Sumithmol, Director, CRC A&N-Islands delivered the presidential address. Mr. Sakthivel has taken a session on Anger Management for Youth and introduction about Schizoprenia. Miss. Tannu & Miss. Ramya, Students of MSW., Madras Social Work, Chennai lectured about the 21 disabilities. Mrs. Yogavathi Muthu, Special Educator has explained the CRC A&N-Islands functions, services and schemes. 

The target group included Youth from ST community, Parents of PwDs and Students of Social Work. In Total, 32 participated and get benefitted. The event significantly raised awareness about the importance of Mental Health harmony, schizophrenia, reduced stigma, and provided crucial support to those affected. The community’s positive response and active participation highlighted the importance of continued efforts in mental health education and support.
