ANTCC stages protest against the arrest of MLA Jignesh Mevani

Port Blair, Apr 26: Five days after the arrest of Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani by Assam police from Palanpur circuit house, Banaskantha, the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee leaders have come out in protest to condemn the incident.
Congress leaders led by Mr. Rangalal Halder, President, ANTCC and Mr. V.K Abdul Aziz, President, DCC protested on 26th April 2022 at Wimberligunj Junction. They raised slogans against the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Congress workers are disappointed over the brazen arrest of Mr. Jignesh Mevani. Everyone has freedom of speech, but we dread to think of the plight of other Dalit activists when such an incident can happen with an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of a state,” said Mr. Halder.
He demanded the immediate release of Mr. Jignesh Mewani. He claimed that Mevani was arrested to obstruct his influence among the people in Gujarat.
Mr. Aziz alleged that Assam Chief Minister and Police department is doing conspiracy in this matter. He said that Mr. Mewani was apprehended unconstitutionally from Palanpur town in Gujarat on Wednesday night under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act over his purported tweet against the Prime Minister.
