Workshop Cum Exposure Visit science & Technology Communication

Port Blair, Oct 14:  Environmental Education Centre organized a workshop cum exposure visit on Science & Technology communication of best practices and awareness raising on climate change & biodiversity conservation in Andaman & Nicobar Islands in association with the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

 Workshop organized for teacher trainees of DIET, Garacharma on 11.10.2022 to make them understand the impact of climate change issues on island biodiversity.

Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Officer In-charge, Zoological of Survey of India was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He addressed Vulnerability and adaptation to climate change for A&N islands. Mr. M. Sailabudin, Principal, DIET, Garacharma welcomed the gathering. Dr.Mohd. Safique, Medical Officer, PHC, Garacharam talked about the Basic concept of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH). Mr. Aviral Saxena, Technical Expert, GIZ chatted about Ocean Solutions to Address Climate Change and Its Effects on Marine Ecosystems. Mr. A. Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair proposed a vote of thanks and highlighted Biodiversity and climate change’s impact on biodiversity.

In the continuation of the program, an Exposure visit was organized for participants on 12.10.2022. The participants observed the importance of mangroves, the importance of coastal vegetation, the
role of national parks and sanctuaries in mitigating climate change. During the visit, the participants were taken to BSI Garden Nayashehar, Junglighat coastal line, ZSI Museum and Carbyn’s Cove mangrove Patch.
