Robbery Case Cracked within 8 Hours by Rangat Police

Port Blair, Sep 11: On 08/09/23 a swift and efficient response from the Rangat Police resulted in the successful apprehension of a robbery suspect, Mali Taman, who had allegedly robbed Rs. 70,000 from a retired forest laborer, William Dung Dung, in broad daylight.

The incident unfolded at the SBI Rangat branch, where William Dung Dung, accompanied by Mali Taman, had visited the bank to withdraw money, given his illiteracy. After a successful withdrawal of Rs. 70,000 from the cash counter, Mali Taman suddenly turned-on Dung Dung, thrashed him, forcibly seized the money, and threatened him before fleeing the scene. Mr. Dung Dung immediately reported the incident to the Rangat Police Station, leading to the registration of an FIR.

Taking prompt action, a dedicated team was assembled, comprising SI Deva Raju, PC Anil Yadav, Sonu Yadav and Sheetal, under the supervision of Inspr. R.K Mazumder, SHO PS, Rangat. Their mission was to swiftly search, locate and apprehend the accused.

Through rigorous efforts and relentless pursuit, the investigative team received crucial information suggesting that the suspect had fled to Kadamtala. In collaboration with the Kadamtala Police Station, the joint team successfully apprehended Mali Taman in less than 05 hours. The suspect was subsequently brought to PS Rangat and more than 96% of the robbery money was recovered.

This exemplary operation was conducted under the vigilant supervision of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, SDPO, Ranagat, and the overall guidance of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
