Rangat Forest Department seizes 20kgs Andaman Wild Pig meat; one person arrested

Port Blair, Jul 12: On the basis of clandestine information, on 09th July 2022 the team of A. F. E. V. S., Rangat, consisting of Mr. S. P. Roy, Deputy Ranger, Mr. BasantLall, F. G, and two mazdoors, namely Mr. Sanjay Mandal and Mr. Anup Mistry went for detection of a Wildlife offense. At about 1830 hrs. the team went to Bakultala and followed one suspected STS Bus. On arrival in front of the IMFC shop, two people boarded the Bus for checking inside the Bus. Another two people continuously followed the Bus up to check Post. Rangat and stopped the Bus. Then all the four people started checking the bus. When Mr. S. P. Roy opened the side box, he noticed one cement bag filled with some materials. When he opened the bag, they noticed that the bag was filled with the meat of Andaman Wild Pig.

          On interrogation, the driver and the conductor of the Bus produced the owner of the bag. They also disclosed that the person stated false information during loading the bag. He stated that the bag contains Nuts while loading the bag. On further interrogation, the accused person disclosed his name as P. K. Shanmugam, s/o late P. Kalankari, r/o Kaushalyanagar.

          Immediately, Mr. S. P. Roy, deputy Ranger seized the meat from his possession after weighing the meat, which was 20 kgs, and maintained the remaining codal formalities. Then the seized materials along with the accused person were handed over to the Range Officer, Rangat for further proceedings.
