Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan has been Envisioned to Support those on TB Treatment

Port Blair, Dec 13: The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on September 9, 2022 which was envisioned to bring together all community stakeholders (Ni-kshay Mitra/Donor) to support those on TB treatment, help to accelerate the country’s progress towards TB elimination and to make this campaign a mass movement. 

There is an inferiority complex associated with this disease, and the disease is viewed as a stigma, which also has to be eradicated. Everyone should be made aware that TB germs are often present in everyone’s body and when the immunity of a person, due to some reason, decreases, then this disease expresses itself in that person. With treatment, one can definitely get rid of this disease. 

The type of additional assistance that may be provided by the Ni-kshay Mitra to on-treatment TB patients who have given consent for support shall include the following:

  • Nutritional support
  • Additional investigations for the diagnosed TB patients
  • Vocational support
  • Additional nutritional supplements
  • The minimum period of commitment for providing additional support to the TB patient shall be 6 months.

Ni-kshay Mitra (Donor) for this programme includes co-operative societies, corporate, elected representatives, individuals, institutions, non-governmental organizations, political parties and partners who can support by adopting the health facilities (for individual donor), blocks/urban wards/districts/States for accelerating the response against TB to complement the government efforts, as per the district-specific requirements in coordination with the district administration.

Mr. Suneel Anchipakka, Deputy Commissioner/Chairman, District Health Society (SA) has appealed the NGOs, Civil Societies Organizations, Religious groups & individuals to come forward to provide nutritional support to the TB patients for which they may register themselves in the Ni-kshay 2.0 portal @ https://www.nikshay.in to join with this campaign to eliminate TB by 2025. The support provided by Nikshay Mitra to the patient under this initiative is in addition to the free diagnostics, free drugs and Ni-kshayPoshan Yojana (Nutritional Financial Assistance) providedby the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) to all the TB patients notified from both the public and the private health facility.

Accordingly, as per the initiative of District Administration towards community involvement for providing nutritional support to TB patients of the Society, 21 donors have been registered under South Andaman District and has provided nutritional kits to 178 beneficiaries of South Andaman District.
