Narcondum Guard and Diglipur Police Apprehend Foreign Poachers

Port Blair, Feb 27: Poaching by Foreigners in the Islands territories is one of the major challenges for the Police in North and Middle Andaman District. Foreign Poachers from Myanmar are coming to collect sea wealth from A&N islands which have immense value in the international market. To check foreign threats, guards have been deployed at remote pockets of this district. In an incident on 02.02.23, troops of LOP Narcondam guard while on routine sea patrolling noticed two foreign dinghies, acting swiftly and courageously the patrolling team chased and rounded-up the foreign boats to make them surrender. In this incident two dinghies along with 10 myanmarese poachers were apprehended but few of them jumped into the sea and swam towards the coast and fled into the Jungle. Later, in a month-long search, 04 more poachers have been apprehended.

In another incident on 23.02.2023 police got an input by a fisherman of Diglipur locality that he had sighted a foreign Dinghy at Jol Tikery. A Police team which was already on sea patrolling at West Coast was diverted to the spot and LOP Karen Nallah was also informed to coordinate with another team for the search. Both the police team met at Jamun Tikery creek and conducted a massive search. After a long hour search in the dense forest they were able to locate the hidden dinghy and later they apprehended 07 myanmarese poachers and brought them to PS Diglipur. During the month of February, 23, total 19 poachers were apprehended and all of them were immediately shifted to PS CCS, Port Blair for further legal action. 

The general public and fishermen who are venturing in sea are requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to sighting of foreign boats/nationals to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. Their identity will be kept secret and they will be suitably rewarded for their brave act.
