Member of Parliament demands uninterrupted power supply in South Andaman region

Port Blair, Nov 09: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to issue necessary directions to the Electricity Department to provide uninterrupted power supply and to find the faults and take necessary measures to stop such power cuts.
In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that due to frequent power cuts, electronic equipment in their homes are getting damaged and they are unable to carry out normal daily chores at home.
He added that thousands of students in different schools are also suffering heavily due to frequent power cuts in the South Andaman region during school hours, considering the hot and humid season.The Member of Parliament mentioned that power cuts are also causing huge problems in G B Pant Hospital as due to insufficient power backup many medical equipment and expensive machines could not be operated in the desired manner, which could be a threat to the patients.
He pointed out that small and Medium business owners, who can’t afford generators, are also equally hit by frequent power cuts as they are witnessing heavy loss in business because during power cuts they are unable to operate computers and other machines.
He added that people of every sector are going through huge problems due to such frequent power cuts, which amounts to around 8 to 10 power cuts a day, combined with voltage fluctuations.
