Member of Parliament demands survey of all the roads and roadside drains of Andaman and Nicobar Islands so that road stretches without proper drains can be identified

Port Blair, Sept 05: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to conduct a survey of all the roads and roadside drains of Andaman and Nicobar Islands so that road stretches without proper drainage are identified. Once the survey reports come, it will be easy to construct proper drains along all roads to ensure extended life of every road stretch.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament added that branch roads are in very bad shape in many areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

He said that during visits to some of those roads, he has personally observed that the road damages and potholes have a clear link with the absence of a proper drainage system along the road.

He pointed out that wherever proper drainage is not there due to lack of space for drain, faulty designs of existing drains and obstruction of drain, rainwater flows through roads, which ultimately creates potholes.

This is the reason why in every area even after repeated repair works the potholes resurface after every spell of heavy rain, he added.

The Member of Parliament mentioned that such examples can be seen in Corbyn’s Cove- Brookshabad road, New Pahargaon Road, Calicut Village Community Hall Road and various other places. Even in ATR road near Kangaroo Hotel, Sippighat such damages to the road due to lack of drainage could be seen.

Considering the crucial issue, the Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to conduct a survey of all the roads and roadside drains of Andaman and Nicobar Islands so that road stretches without proper drains can be identified.
