Mainstreaming Training Programme on HIV/AIDS, STD, Condom Promotion, Blood Donation and HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) ACT, 2017

Port Blair, Dec 16: A & N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) conducted a mainstreaming training programme on HIV/AIDS for the sanitary workers on 16.12.2022 at 11.00 am at Shadipur Community hall. 100 participants participate in the training programme.

Mr. Girish Kumar, AD (SPM), ANACS conducted the training programme. He informed that Human immuneefficiency virus (HIV) is an infection that attacks the body’s immune system. HIV infection can be diagnosed using simple and affordable rapid diagnostic tests, as well as self-tests.

People can lead a healthy life for a long time with appropriate medical care. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) effectively suppresses replication, if taken at the right time. Successful viral suppression restores the immune system and halts onset and progression of disease as well as reduces chances of getting opportunistic infections. Medication thus enhances both quality of life and longevity.

Further, he also informed about HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) ACT, 2017 which came into force on September 10, 2018 with the objective to prevent and control the spread of HIV and AIDS and for reinforcing the legal and human rights of persons infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS. It also seeks to protect the rights of healthcare providers.

The participants were informed to come forward for ‘Knowing their HIV Status” by voluntarily getting themselves tested which will be kept confidential.
