ICAR-CIARI Port Blair conducts training on “Cultivation of Fruits for nutritional security of tribal women farmers” and input distribution programme under scheduled tribe component at Harminder Bay

Port Blair, Aug 22: ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair conducted training on “Cultivation Cultivation of Fruits for nutritional security of tribal women farmers” under scheduled tribe component at HarminderBay on 18th and 19th August 2022. A total of 35 women farmers from 15 tuhets have participated in the programme.

            Dr. Pooja Bohra and Dr.AjitArunWaman, Scientists and organizers of the programme sensitized about the role of nutrients and various fruit sources in maintaining health, and cultivation practices for raising various perennial fruit crops were also taught to the participants. The training was followed by a demonstration of fruit saplings in the farmers’ field. Inputs such as 250 saplings of lime, passion fruit, bilimbi, tejpat and UV- stabilized film (350 m2) were provided for the construction of the polyhouse as a common asset to the tribal council.

            Mr. Andrew Moses, First Headman, Mr. Yoseph, Second Headman and Mr. Festus, Secretary, Tribal Council appreciated the ICAR-CIARI for providing the inputs for the betterment of the tribal farming community. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
