Final year B Tech Civil Engineering students of DBRAIT witness ongoing works of Veer Savarkar international airport

Port Blair, Apr 12: Final year B Tech Civil Engineering students of DBRAIT had an opportunity to witness the ongoing finishing works of the new terminal of Veer Savarkar international airport.  The Assistant General Manager, Airport Authority of India explained all the advanced features of the airport. The briefing session was followed by Mr. Kurian, Assistant Manager Operations who offered details of the Column less building to support 120m roof span and all green building features. The Architect from Shapoorji & Pallonji Company detailed the unique design of roof arches, cable net glazing and all other salient features of a three star energy efficient steel structure. The students were walked around the new passenger terminal which has three floors- lower ground, upper ground and first floor with an additional Apron area, and four additional bays for parking the aircraft and three aero-bridges, which is expected to serve 1200 passengers during peak hours and more than 40 lakhs passengers annually. Students also witnessed the fabricated and installed roof whose height varied between 18 m and 32 m. The first ever public building with 10 elevators and six escalators excited the students.
