DC South Andaman Launches Private Physician’s Participation in PMSMA at DH Garacharma

Port Blair, Mar 09: The Deputy Commissioner (SA) Mrs. Veditha Reddy, IAS, South Andaman launched the Private Physician’s participation in the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) today at DH Garacharma by lighting the lamp in presence of Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Addl. District Magistrate (SA), Dr. Suja Anthony, Deputy Director (FW) DHS, Medical Superintendent I/c, DH Garacharma, Dist. Programme Manager, DHS(SA), Private Physicians & large gathering of pregnant women.  

The DC(SA) informed the gathering that the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan envisages to improve the quality and coverage of Antenatal Care (ANC) including diagnostics and counseling services as part of the Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health Strategy. Further, the DC(SA) added that the programme follows a systematic approach for engagement with the private sector which includes motivating private practitioners to volunteer for the campaign, developing strategies for generating awareness and appealing to the private sector to participate in the Abhiyan at government health facilities. DC (SA) appreciated private doctors for showing their social responsibility and commitment towards the community and also asked them to look after the feasibility of providing other services free of cost for the community on 9th of every month. 

During the interaction DC (SA) assured that all concerns of the private hospitals will also be taken care of and addressed by the Health Department. The pregnant women present on the occasion conveyed their gratitude towards the District Administration & Health Department for such an initiative which will benefit poor residents of these Islands, for better health care and free of cost consultancy along with ultrasound checkup. 

The Addl. District Magistrate (SA) also applauded the private doctors for their instant response to the District Administration’s proposal and accordingly, 10 private doctors of 06 private hospitals under South Andaman District namely Pillar Health Centre: 03 Physicians, Amrita Health Centre: 02 Physicians, Rithika’s Diagnostic Solutions Pvt. Ltd.: 02 Physicians, Aurn Hospital : 01 Physician, Swasthiya Medical Centre: 01 Physician and New Life Diagnostic (Apollo Clinic): 01 Physician have registered themselves as volunteer in the portal of the PMSMA to provide free ANC to pregnant women. These hospitals will support the administration by providing free ANC & ultrasound services for pregnant women on 9th of every month. The govt. hospitals will coordinate with these registered physicians of private hospitals to facilitate the needy pregnant women.

Earlier, Deputy Director (FW), DHS informed that the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan has been launched by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. The program aims to provide assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care, free of cost, universally to all pregnant women on the 9th of every month. PMSMA guarantees a minimum package of antenatal care services to women in their 2nd / 3rd trimesters of pregnancy at designated government health facilities. The District Programme Manager, District Health Society (SA) welcomed the gathering and the programme concluded with the vote of thanks by the Medical Superintendent I/c, DH Garacharma followed by antenatal checkup of 43 pregnant women by private doctors.
