CPI(M) demands to reveal to reveal Agreement with Students and Pondicherry University

Port Blair, Sep 19: Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI(M), A&N State Organising Committee requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administrationto reveal the details of the agreement/consensus reached between A & N Administration, Pondicherry University.

In a letter, he mentioned that the local media – print, electronic and social – was abuzz with the news and tall claims of the success of the month-long agitation by a section of students of DBRAIT, Dollygunj, consequent upon the parleys held by the Administration with the visiting Vice Chancellor of the Pondicherry University and aggrieved students.

He stated that the students were also found, to some extent, satisfied with the outcome of the meetings held at various levels or assurances given to them by the authorities which were reflected in the bytes the student leaders gave to local media on 15th September 2022. It is found that the A & N Administration has not come forward with a press release and the Administration’s daily newspaper The Daily Telegrams did not carry any news item on the reported agreement.

However, to the dismay of the islanders, the students again gathered in front of the Secretariat on 16th September 2022, expressing their disenchantment with the purported agreement reached with them or the assurance given to them. It seems that the assurance given to the students by the authorities is not being implemented/honoured.

The genesis of the agitation by the DBRAIT students lies with the 17 conditions imposed by Pondicherry University for the continued affiliation of the engineering courses run by the DBRAIT, Port Blair.

He stated that it is not revealed by any of the authorities (Pondicherry University or A & N Administration) or the ABVP, which spearheaded the agitation initially and tried to take credit for the so-called settlement, whether any of the conditions put forth by the Pondicherry University has been accepted by the A & N Administration or the University has withdrawn such conditions. People have a right to know the agreement reached between the Administration, Pondicherry University and aggrieved students and which ones, out of 17 conditions have been fulfilled by the A & N Administration.

Mr. D. Ayyappan requested the Chief Secretary to reveal the details of the agreement/consensus reached between A & N Administration, Pondicherry University, and aggrieved students and the details of the fulfilment of the 17 conditions initially imposed by the Pondicherry University for conditional affiliation, by issuing a press statement in the local media so that the people will know the facts relating to the issue.
