CPI (M) Holds Mass Demonstration against Price Rise at Port Blair

Port Blair, Feb 10: CPI (M) Port Blair Area Committee has conducted a Mass Demonstration in front of the Directorate of Civil Supplies at Port Blair today (10.02.2023) afternoon to protest against unchecked price rise.  A large number of Party leaders, party members and party sympathizers of the Port Blair urban area participated in the Mass Demonstration.  

 Addressing the gathering, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee came down heavily on the BJP government at the center and it’s Administration in the islands for the spiraling prices in the islands. He said that the promises made by the BJP in their Election Manifesto of 2014 has turned out to be hollow  as  prices of almost all the items  have abnormally increased  during the last nine years. He said that LPG prices have increased from 450 in 2014 to 1200 in 2023 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He condemned the decision of the A & N Administration to stop supply of fortified Attah in the islands and demanded that the Fortified Attah should be supplied through Fair Price Shops. Addressing the gathering D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member of CPI (M) said that inferior quality onion and potato are being supplied in the islands and the Civil Supplies Department has failed to take action against the people concerned.  Speaking on the occasion, Gouranga Majhi, State Secretariat Member of the Party criticized the Administration and Civil Supplies Department for not responding to the grievances of the political parties and general public. SP Kalairajan and P. Sathyapal, State Organizing Committee Members also addressed the meeting.
