BSNL Employees Union 07th Circle Conference held at Port Blair

Port Blair, Sep 04: The 07th Circle Conference of BSNL Employees Union was held at Atul Smriti Samity, Port Blair 03rd September 2022. The Conference began with the hoisting of the Union flag and paying tributes to the martyrs at the specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column. Mr. Deepak Shukla, Joint Secretary, Reception Committee welcomed the Chief Guest, General Secretary, BSNLEU and other leaders and delegates and observers.

Inaugurating the Conference, Mr. P. Abhimanyu, General Secretary, BSNL Employees Union, Delhi explained in detail the various actions of the central government over the years to destroy the state-owned BSNL. He said that the government is not allowing the BSNL to purchase equipments for providing 4G services from the international market while private telecom companies are allowed to purchase such equipments from other countries.

He said that Govt of India insisted to purchase the equipments from TCS which is unable to provide it, leading to the denial of 4G services to BSNL customers and ultimately losing BSNL revenue and customers. He said that private telecom companies are going to start the 5G services soon but the BSNL is yet to begin its 4G services because of the step-motherly treatment meted out to BSNL by the BJP-led central government. The revival package for BSNL recently announced by the central government is only an eye-wash and nothing is being done to revive the company.

In October 2019 also, a revival package for BSNL was announced by the government, but it was limited only to the VRS of the staff of BSNL. He said that the Prime Minister was interested to take action against BSNL officers and staff under FR 56 (J) not for their welfare and the growth of BSNL. Mr. Abhimanyu said that it was only because of the BSNL that the private telecom companies are not increasing the tariff or looting the customers now. He exhorted the BSNL officers and staff to work hard for strengthening the BSNL and simultaneously fight against the anti-BSNL and anti-working-class policies of the Modi government.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajaram Mohan, ITS, Chief General Manager, who was the Chief Guest in the Open Session of the Conference, briefly explained the decisions taken in the meeting of Circle Heads held under the chairmanship of CMD of BSNL recently and expressed his hope that the BSNL will be able to obtain the necessary equipments for providing 4G services in these islands very soon.

He said that the BSNL has decided to monitor the performance of all its officers from the level of CGM upto the lowest level for improving the efficiency of the company. He appreciated the hard work put up by the BSNL workforce in the islands even during the adverse time of the Covid 19 pandemic to keep the telephone services working in the islands.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that the government is privatizing all the state-owned undertakings one by one. Addressing the Open Session, Mr. D. Ayyappan, Vice President of the CITU State Committee expressed the hope that the 4G services will be made available in the A&N Islands which will increase the customer strength of BSNL in the islands.

He asked all the unions and Associations of BSNL staff and officersin the islands to go to the people and explain the various anti-BSNL measures taken by the central government which led to the denial of the 4G facility to the BSNL customers. Leaders of several Associations and Unions in the BSNL and other organizations also addressed the Open Session.             In the afternoon, the Delegate Session of the Conference was held in which Mr. SP Kalairajan, Circle Secretary of BSNL Employees Union presented the working report since the last Conference held in 2018 while Mr.Chittaranjan Biswas, Treasurer presented the Audited Accounts of the Union.
