Botanical Survey of India organizes Mass tree plantation drive to celebrate73rd Van Mahotsava

Port Blair, Jul 07: As part of a one-week tree plantation programme in connection with the celebration of 73rd Van Mahotsava, the Botanical Survey of India Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre organized the plantation of Rare and Endemic palm and fruiting trees at the premises of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Port Blair on from 06th and 07th July 2022.

            The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Joint Director & Head, ANRC, BSI, by planting the seedling of Bentinckia nicobarica (Kurz) Becc. in the gracious presence of School Principal (i/c), Mr. Alok Kumar Chaturvedi. Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of trees and life and also highlighted global warming and the role of plants since the beginning of life etc. He urged the school students and participants to create more awareness about the conservation of tree species.

            A large number of school students, teachers and staff of the school, and officers and staff of BSI enthusiastically participated in the awareness program and planted over 100 samplings of palm along with edible fruiting tree species (Mango, Khattaphal/Andaman Grapes and Kokum) in the campus.
