08th Year Foundation Day Celebration of Andaman Helping Hands, A&N Islands (Ahhani)

Port Blair, Oct 31: Andaman Helping Hands, A&N Islands (AHHANI) celebrated its 08th Year Foundation Day with great enthusiasm and zeal on 29th October 2022 at Fisheries Colony, Dairy Farm.

Foundation Day is a day of remembrance, a day of honouring, a day to celebrate what has been achieved over the years, and a day to look forward to what is yet to come. Today’s Foundation Day has been a milestone in the journey of the organisation which has grown from humble beginnings to its eminent status which had Establishment on 29 Oct 2014 with a motto “LokaSamasthaSukhinoBhavantu”. In initial periods the members of the AHHANI had worked in association with other NGOs and later they remained a Sovereign body and now people can see AHHANI has emerged and touched new heights in these Isles.This Annual day celebration had scaled the pinnacle of success.

Apropos, on this day since morning AHHANI has organised Cleanliness Drive at FLC, Junglighat from 0600 hrs to 0800 hrs. 51 volunteers  have been participated and total 34 bags of garbage was removed off from FLC Jetty, Junglighat which consisted all type of mixed garbage like plastics materials, Alcoholic bottles (Four bags containing about 467 bottles), Tetra packs, Water bottles, plastic fish wastage basket etc., Blood Donation Camp coordinated by Andaman & Nicobar AIDS control society (ANACS). 22 donors had donated blood irrespective of age (above 18 years) at Fisheries Jetty Hall, Junglighat from 0900 hrs to 1230 hrs alongwith felicitations to Guest of Honours who had been invited by the organisation to succeed this grand event and finally dinner has been arranged at orphanage of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Port Blair from 2030 hrs onwards.

       Throughout the event support extended by “Allu Arjun Army Andaman (AAAA), Volunteers from Sri SaktivelMurugan Youth Club, Volunteers from Shriram Sevak, Local Fishermans, Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) and Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs”. Huge support received from the said NGOs and Govt Institutions to clean up the entire Fish Landing Centre. The drive was graced by Mrs. Kavita Uday Kumar, Chairperson PBMC, Mr. Uday Kumar, Ex-Chairperson, PBMC and Mr. Y Joga Rao (YJR), Councillor Ward No 14, PBMC. Before conclusion, they interacted with the volunteers as well as the local Fishermen. In between of the event, an initiative has also been undertaken/launched by the members of the AHHANI which was instead of polythene bags adopt Tiffin boxes for carrying meat/fish items to reduce plastic in the islands. Later, this idea/thought was supported by the Chairperson of PBMC and appealed to Andamanians. At the end of the event, volunteers raised slogans with great enthusiasm and patriotism as “Clean Port Blair-Green Port Blair”, “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, “RakhtDaan-MahaDaan” and” Hara GeelaSukhaNeela” respectively. Also Special thanks given to all who have been participating and make this Foundation Day successful with great fervour and excitement.
